The development of the Masterchief, the character was done by Rob Mclees and Marcus Lehto with Shi Kai Wang hired to produce the artwork for the figure. Shi Kai Wang’s preliminary sketch of MasterChief is shown, although the figure was made larger and bulked up for the video games to give a more aggressive marine persona.

The only physical description of the MasterChief comes from the novel Halo: The Flood, the MasterChief is described as “tall with short hair, serious eyes, and strong features”. His skin is “too white”, a consequence of spending most of his time in his armor.

Masterchief Character History

MasterChief was raised as a child at Elysium City on the planet Eridanus II.

As a tall child with great strength and reactions he was conscripted to the Spartan program at the age of six.

MasterChief trained under Chief Petty Officer Franklin Mendez. Phyiscal training was paramount along with military strategy and military weapons training.

Spartan training involves “augmentation” which leaves many prospective Spartans dead, but MasterChief made it through the process as one of thirty-three.

MasterChief received a purple heart on his first mission, taking a shot while carrying out his orders. Master Chief served in over 200 missions fighting for 27 years against the Covenant.
